Akanisi is a graduate in Law and also has an honours degree in Strategic Management both from the University of Waikato. She was also a graduate student at the University of Ghent in Belgium where she studied International Law and completed her law degree. Akanisi joined Howards after completing her Professional Legal Studies Course in Hamilton, New Zealand. She was admitted to the Fiji Bar on 5 August 2011.
She assists senior practitioners in the firm in research for opinions and advising clients on issues of liability in commercial and environmental law. She is currently undertaking her pupilage in environmental law, conveyancing and litigation under the guidance of the senior practitioners.
In 2009, she was also selected to intern for the Rule of Law Unit at the United Nations Headquarters in New York where she assisted in research and consolidation of Rule of Law policy across all UN agencies.
