Maria-Goreti Muavesi gained her law degree from the University of the South Pacific in 2004. She completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and was admitted to the High Court of Fiji in 2005. 

She joined Howards Lawyers in early 2011 as a Senior Associate where she manages the environmental and natural resource law practice of the firm.  She assists the firm’s clients in obtaining environment impact assessment approvals, waste disposal and recycling permits, other environmental and planning related permits and licences and ancillary approvals necessary prior to undertaking a development project and commercial business in Fiji.  She also assists clients already undertaking commercial activity in Fiji on compliance issues.
 
Maria-Goreti started her career as a Legal Officer with the Department of Environment where she coordinated and managed programmes for the Unit responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the Environment Management Act (2005) (EMA) and provided legal advice to other Units within the Department.  She assisted and managed the formulation of the Environment Management (EIA Processing) Regulations 2007 and Environment Management (Waste Disposal & Recycling) Regulations 2007. 

In 2008, Maria-Goreti joined Munro Leys as a Solicitor in the Commercial Group of the firm practising in the areas of foreign investment, commercial property, corporate and environmental law.

She then joined the Fiji Environmental Law Association (FELA) in 2010 as Coordinator and Environmental Lawyer.  She set up the FELA office and coordinated all its programmes with the assistance of the FELA Executive Committee. 

She is a member of FELA, the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, National Environmental Law of Australia and JICA Alumni Association of Fiji.
